Amanda Koennecke, licensed esthetician at Watershed Wellness

A facial rooted in holistic health, built on modern skincare education, and accessible to everyone.

Skincare is universal, and a necessary part of our everyday healthcare.

I’ve been practicing esthetics for 21 years. I specialize in facials and skin care, and in the curious conditions and cases that come with them. A product routine you’ve used for 20 years that’s suddenly making you break out? A teenager who’s brand new to skincare? Adult onset acne, burning or itchy skin, small white bumps that need to be extracted but the dermatologist won’t touch? I’m interested in building a course of treatment that makes sense to you, one you can sustain and that gets you results over the long term.

My formal training started in the beauty and spa industry, as a professional makeup artist. A well-executed makeup application needs a properly prepped face and good skincare behind it, and over the years that pulled my focus toward facials. I saw a need for holistic skincare with a modern approach and a strong emphasis on client education, and in 2015 I began building what became the skincare program at Watershed Wellness. That practice is still shaped entirely by the concerns and the celebrations that clients bring to the table.

Where my practice has seen the most success:

  • Age maintenance concerns, especially for people who want a natural approach to it.
  • “Finally wanting to get into a good skincare routine.”
  • Oncology esthetics. I have specialized training in how cancer can affect the skin and your mental health, and in the limitations and ingredients a facial needs to work around.
  • Milia extraction and removal, using very fine sterilized esthetic needles.
  • Lymphatic facial massage, which treats fluid stagnation and puffiness.

What a facial with me includes:

  • A seamless blend of holistic health techniques and a classic spa experience, so the treatment is deeply relaxing and still results-driven.
  • A follow-up email after your first appointment, laying out the benefits and main points of your treatment, every product I used, and my recommendations going forward.

I’m a 5th generation Oregonian with deep forestry and timber roots, dating back to 1928 in Sandy, Oregon. I grew up on Sauvie Island just outside of Portland, where my folks still live today, so it follows that I’m happiest camping, hiking, or swimming in the nearest mountain run-off.

I have a serious love for food preservation projects (canning, dehydrating), cooking, supporting local farms and farmers, and roadtrips down the Oregon coast. Also the Minnesota Vikings and fantasy football, and historical cinema preservation projects like the Columbian Theater here in Astoria and the Hollywood Theater in Portland, which remind us of a more magical time. Astoria has happily been my home base for seven years now.
